Decking

Decking — CNB Renovation Toronto
Composite deck + adirondack lounge · Whitby

A deck is the first thing your guests see and the last thing you sit on before bed in summer. We build decks that hold up to Toronto winters, meet Ontario Building Code Part 9.23, and use composite or kiln-dried materials engineered for our freeze-thaw cycles.

What a CNB deck includes

  • Footings drilled below frost line — 1.2m minimum, with concrete sonotubes and saddle brackets (no buried wood posts).
  • Pressure-treated structure with stainless or galvanised fasteners, joist hangers, and proper flashing where deck meets house.
  • Surface options: Composite (Trex Transcend, TimberTech AZEK), thermally modified ash (Bingaman or KEBONY), or PT cedar with stain.
  • Code-compliant railings at 42″ for decks 24″+ above grade, with proper baluster spacing (4″ sphere rule).
  • Permit handling for decks above 24″ or attached to the house — Toronto requires it, we file it.

Composite vs natural wood — what we recommend

Multi-level + integrated features

We’ve built pergola-covered decks, decks with integrated planter beds, glass railings for lake-view properties, and decks with hidden under-stair storage. If you’ve seen it on Houzz, we’ve probably done it — send a reference image with your quote request.

Common questions

FAQ

Do you handle permits?

Yes. We file with the City of Toronto, schedule inspections, provide all documentation for closing or insurance. Permits typically take 6-12 weeks to issue in Toronto 2026.

What if my basement has a low ceiling?

Toronto Bylaw 569-2013 + OBC 2024 require 1.95m minimum (1.9m under beams) for habitable basement. Below that — we recommend underpinning (+$30-80K) or bench footing.

How long is the typical project?

Basement: 8-12 weeks build. Bathroom: 2-4 weeks. Decking: 1-2 weeks. Demolition: 1-3 weeks. Permit timeline adds 6-12 weeks before build can start.

Are you insured?

Yes. WSIB clearance, $2M liability coverage, licensed Toronto contractor. 10-year structural warranty on all basements.
