Everything in-house. No subcontractors.
Custom Treads & Risers
Red oak, white oak, maple, or walnut treads. Open-riser floating look or traditional closed risers. Prefinished or site-sanded and stained to match your existing floors. All treads mortised into the stringer — no squeaks, no bounce.
Glass Panel & Cable Railings
Frameless or semi-frameless tempered glass panels, horizontal cable railing systems, or classic wood baluster designs. Brushed black, chrome, or powder-coated steel posts. All railing systems meet Ontario Building Code 2024 (42" height, 4" baluster spacing).
Under-Stair LED Lighting
Integrated LED strip lighting under each tread — warm white 3000K or tunable colour. Dimmable smart control (compatible with Lutron, Leviton). Wired by our licensed electrician, no visible conduit. Adds dramatic visual impact and night-time safety.
Full Staircase Rebuild
Structural assessment, removal of old staircase, new stringer fabrication, tread installation, railing, newel posts, and full paint or stain finish. Single permit filed when required. One crew start to finish — no coordination headaches between trades.

What homeowners ask before hiring us
Cosmetic work — restaining treads, replacing balusters, swapping railing styles — does not require a permit. A structural staircase rebuild, moving the staircase, or cutting a new opening does require a Building Permit. CNB files all required permits with the City of Toronto. We assess during the free site visit.
Restaining or replacing treads: 2–5 days. Full stair renovation with new railings: 1–2 weeks. Custom floating staircase or structural rebuild: 2–3 weeks. We give you a firm written timeline at quote — our On-Time Guarantee backs it with a $500/week credit if we miss the agreed date.
Red oak is the most popular — affordable, hard (1,290 Janka), easy to stain. White oak has a tighter grain and handles grey/white stains beautifully. Maple is harder (1,450 Janka) but tricky to stain evenly. Walnut is the luxury choice — rich chocolate tone, no stain needed. We bring samples to the site visit so you can decide in context.
Yes — we sequence the work so at least one set of stairs (or a temporary walkboard) is usable at all times. On a full rebuild, we provide advance notice of the 1–2 day access interruption so you can plan.
Glass panels (tempered, 3/8") give a clean modern look with zero visual obstruction — maximizes light and space. Cable railing (1/8" stainless 7×19 cable) has a more industrial/coastal feel and is typically less expensive. Both meet OBC 2024. We carry samples of both systems — common choice in Toronto renovation 2026 is glass for open-concept homes.
All treads are blind-nailed and glued to the stringer with construction adhesive, then mortised into a dado cut — not surface-screwed. Risers are glued and nailed from both sides. We do a walk test at completion; any squeak found is fixed before we leave. Squeaks that develop within 1 year are covered under our workmanship warranty.
OBC 2024 stair requirements: minimum stair width 860 mm (34"); riser height max 200 mm (8"); tread depth min 255 mm (10"); handrail height 865–965 mm (34–38"); interior guard/railing height min 900 mm (36"); guard height for open sides above 600 mm — min 1,070 mm (42"); maximum baluster spacing 100 mm (4") to prevent child head entrapment; minimum headroom 1,950 mm (6ft 5in). CNB designs and builds to every spec above on every job. Code compliance walkthrough provided at sign-off.
